Inn at the Market
86 Pine St., Seattle, Washington, 98101, USA
Why We Like It
The Inn at the Market is the only hotel located in historic Pike Place Market. All rooms have either a full or partial water view, or look out at the Olympic Mountains, or the cityscape. It also has a unique neighborhood feel due to its location in a market courtyard, which makes you feel more like you’re coming home rather than to a hotel at the end of each day.
Fodor's Expert Review
From its jaw-dropping bay views to the fabulous location just steps from Pike Place Market, this is a unique place you'll want to visit again and again; excellent service and dining options make it even more worth the splurge. The inn is well-known for the friendly, helpful staff and excellent room service from Bacco (breakfast) and French charmer Café Campagne (dinner). The contemporary rooms feature a soothing white-and-beige palette, stylish furniture, and incredibly comfortable Hypnos beds. Foodies, romantics, and everyone in between will love the prime location. Rooms are differentiated by the type of view, but if you opt for a City Side room (a good deal even in high season), you can still enjoy uninterrupted water views from the spacious fifth-floor deck perched above Puget Sound. Across the courtyard, you'll find the superb Sushi Kashiba, helmed by renowned chef Shiro Kashiba, who trained under chef Jiro Ono (the subject of the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi); it's a splurge but arguably the best sushi in Seattle.
PROS

- Deals on rooms that don't have views, even in peak season
- Guests have access to the rooftop deck
CONS

- Not the easiest to get in and out by car

Room
The newly designed rooms feature dark wood accents and blue-green tones with tan and brown shades that give the room a sense of calm, the perfect respite. Sleek furniture has been installed to modernize the decor without sacrificing comfort. Seating never feels too rigid or like the chairs are going to consume you; all pieces are invitingly pleasant. Towering windows invite light into each room while the large bed provides a refuge for relaxation. Each room also has a table with two comfy chairs, desk space, and a small coffee bar area, giving you a well-equipped work space
You Should Know There are no adjoining rooms in the hotel, so if traveling with a large number of family members, the Inn may not be the best choice.
Bathroom
The large walk-in shower and wide vanity make for a spacious bathroom. You’ll definitely want to decompress in the tub after a long day of exploring.
Tip If you want to save a bit of money but still enjoy unparalleled Emerald City views, book a “city view” room. You’ll face 1st Avenue—not the most inspiring thing to look at, but you’ll enjoy a cheaper rate and still have access to the private, guest-only rooftop, open 24/7 that faces the market, water, and mountains.
Lobby
The lobby invites guests in with brown and white hues, soft couches, and a fireplace. It’s a fine place to wait for travel companions, but it’s small and not super cozy. For group meetings, we recommend the outdoor courtyard or private guest-only rooftop.
Spa
There is no in-house spa, but the hotel does offer in-room massages; you can inquire at the front desk.
Gym
There’s no gym, but a stay here puts you mere steps from a new path leading down to the waterfront should you fancy a morning jog or walk during your stay.
Dining
The Inn at the Market does not have on-site dining. However, there are three delicious options in the shared courtyard, Café Campagne, a slice of Paris in Seattle, Bacco, a bistro that sources fresh ingredients from Pike Place and serves all-day PNW breakfast, and Sushi Kashiba. The latter two offer courtyard seating in the summer. All three are also available for room service.
Drinking
There is no bar or alcohol service but guests are welcome to bring their own to enjoy in their room or the rooftop.
Beecher’s Suite
Guests looking for a place to host a small birthday party, event-get-ready space, or just want a treat can check out the Beecher’s Suite. Located across the alley from the main hotel in a separate building, the Inn co-manages it with Seattle-based Beecher’s Cheese. The space used to be an architect’s studio and is now the ultimate getaway in the heart of Pike Place. Providing tons of natural light and market views, large floor-to-ceiling paned windows line the walls. Dinner parties or catering orders are easily hosted in the massive kitchen and dining area. In summer, hang out on the deck and enjoy one-of-a-kind views of Pike Place.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
The Inn at the Market is well placed for exploring Seattle with your own two feet. The waterfront and Seattle Great Wheel are reachable via various staircases (5 to 10 minutes). The Space Needle, Seattle Center, and Chihuly Garden and Glass are all a 25-minute walk away. You can also walk to the Monorail (5 minutes) and ride the above-ground subway 3 minutes to the Center. Below the Monorail is the Westlake light rail station, which you can use to explore other neighborhoods such as Capitol Hill, the University District, or to Sea-Tac Airport (45 minutes). Additionally, the hotel offers a reasonably priced town car service.
Restaurants
In addition to the three restaurants in the shared courtyard, you are steps away from Pike Place and some of Seattle’s top restaurants including The Pink Door (2 minute walk) and Aerlume (4 minute walk). For sweeter fares, don’t miss Cinnamon Works (get their giant cookies), Pirosky Pirosky, and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, all located in outdoor market stalls a couple of minutes from the property.
