Why We Like It

You’ll feel right at home at The Thompson where hygge is a central design pillar. Cozy spaces and epic room views invite guests to never leave! As a bonus, the onsite food and drink scene is one of the best in the Emerald City.

Fodor's Expert Review

Designed by local star architects Olson Kundig, the 12-story Thompson Seattle (a Hyatt hotel) makes an impression with a contemporary glass exterior and sophisticated guest rooms that feature floor-to-ceiling windows (some framing epic water views), hardwood floors, a crisp white-and-navy palette, and leather and smoked-glass accents. An emerald-velvet sectional in the art book-filled lobby catches the eye, as do the Pacific Northwest–themed touches throughout the design-savvy hotel. The Thompson's Conversation restaurant offers regional cuisine (don't skip the Dungeness crab Benedict for brunch), while the hugely popular rooftop bar, The Nest, serves up craft cocktails and unbeatable views.

Room

The decent-sized suites are styled in a modern Scandinavian design, paying homage to Seattle’s roots with wood floors, navy and white decor, and red-toned wood accents. Melt into the large bed and allow crisp Sferra cotton sheets to envelop you. Catch a Seahawks or Kraken game on the 50-inch flatscreen or utilize the extensive desk (crafted from the signature wood) below it to clean out your inbox. Refuel between emails and meetings with the literally in-reach mini fridge and bar area.

For visitors using their trip as a proper vacation, you’ll be in explore mode as soon as you take in the star of the room — the window! Floor-to-ceiling glass lets in the sun (or clouds) and provides views of  Puget Sound, Bainbridge Island, and the Olympic Mountains or the happening city streets. At night, you can close the double-layered curtains to ensure a restful sleep.

You Should Know The top rooms on the 12th floor have the best water views but are directly under The Nest rooftop. Thus, noise can sometimes trickle down from the bar, keep in mind if you’re not in a party mood or are a light sleeper.

Bathroom

Wash away the day (and Seattle rain) in a beautiful and luxurious bathroom. The thoughtful designs include tinted dividers between the toilet, vanity, and shower, a welcome change from the current trend of clear glass bathrooms that offer no privacy. The black and white tile throughout elevates the modern design as does the massive rain shower head.

Lobby

The sprawling space benefits from daylight right up until sunset. There are a few couches to hang out on and drink complimentary coffee and Champagne (upon check-in) or snack on freshly baked cookies. However, you’ll probably prefer to chill in the restaurant or rooftop bar over the nice, but not spectacular lobby.

Gym

The gym is one of the best equipped in the city and is open 24/7. There are your standard machines; Precor branded treadmills, ellipticals, bench presses, and Peloton bikes. Additionally, Sweet Sweat and Trideer resistance bands, stability balls, and yoga mats are part of the set up. Thoughtful touches such as water and fruit make this a better gym than your average hotel facility. The street view provides a great distraction while you’re doing cardio, and the Seattle skyline mural is a nice touch too.

Dining

Conversation is the on-site restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner. It’s also popular with locals thanks to the seasonal menu that uses fresh ingredients from around the PNW, with a focus on local seafood and produce. That’s especially true for their weekend-only brunch, which features Northwest favorites such as salmon benedicts, poached eggs and crab, and local mushrooms. As the name suggests, part of the charm is the social atmosphere and settings that encourage interaction. No booths or secluded corners here; the restaurants attempt to thaw that Seattle Freeze.

In summer guests can also dine on the restaurant’s patio and enjoy those rare months of PNW sun. Don’t feel like leaving your snug room? No worries, the room service menu is from Conversation’s kitchen.

Drinking

Creative cocktails such as the Cafe Manhattan (coffee whisky, vermouth, banana, cacoa, and rum) and Electric Grape Spritz (Campari, coffee husk, Lambrusco, and Cynar 70) and birds-eye views of the neighborhood and beyond make The Nest one of Seattle’s most popular rooftop bars. Perched on the hotel’s top floor, guests can sip local IPAs or clever mixed drinks (including an expansive mocktails list) while admiring quintessential PNW scenes such as ferries crossing in the shadow of the Olympic Mountains while seagulls, seals, and (for the lucky few) whales play in the Sound.

Tip The Nest is not exclusive to Thompson guests, and it is also a very popular sunset location, especially during the summer. Spots are first-come, first-serve, so make sure to arrive early during peak hours, especially if you want a good view. In winter, the Nest is indoor only and does open up limited reservations, but you should do so 2-3 weeks in advance. The rooftop can only accommodate parties of 6 or less; for large group events, contact the sales team.

To-Go Old Fashioneds

The most unique amenity available to Thompson guests is the Old Fashioned kits. Pick one up at the front desk or have it delivered to your room for a fun cocktail-making experience. In addition to instructions, bitters, dried citrus, and sugar, you’ll receive the special Thompson Hotel Select Barrel George Dickel Bourbon.
