Background Illustration for Hotels

Hotels and resorts in Grenada tend to be small, with friendly and attentive management and staff. All guest rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, an in-room TV, and telephone unless indicated otherwise. Most also offer complimentary Wi-Fi. During the off-season (April 15 to December 15), rates at resorts may be discounted up to 40%; however, rates at some small hotels remain the same year-round.

Spice Island Beach Resort

$$$$ | Grenada Fodor's Choice

Presenting the most luxurious resort experience in Grenada: exquisite rooms fill gleaming white buildings that extend along 1,600 feet of Grand Anse Beach, and the personalized service is impeccable. Beachfront "seagrape" suites are one step from the sand; luxury pool suites, just yards from the beach, have private gardens with enormous swimming pools; royal pool suites have all that plus a separate sitting room and sauna. Two suites are designed for guests with mobility problems. Guest rooms are richly decorated with contemporary Balinese furniture; the marble-tiled bathrooms are enormous, with double-size tubs. Enjoy water sports on the beach, play a game of tennis, borrow a DVD from the library to play on the in-room Bose entertainment system—or simply ask Alexa to play some music. A massage at Janissa's Spa is a special treat. Kids enjoy all-day activities at the Nutmeg Pod, which includes a nap room, electronic games, and kid-size recliner chairs.

  • Perfect beachfront location
  • Personalized service and fabulous dining

Cons

Bayaleau Point Cottages

$ | Bay à L’Eau, Grenada

In a laid-back environment on a quiet hillside estate on the easternmost point of Windward Bay, four colorful gingerbread cottages are within earshot of one another but partially hidden by trees and other foliage. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and sleeps up to four—one has a "guest" annex that would be perfect for a couple of teenagers. Meals are served by reservation or prearrangement—if you want your freshly caught fish grilled, for example. The cottages were lovingly built, one by one, by owner Dave Goldhill, an expat American who opened Bayaleau (bee-ah-loo) in 1992. Goldhill has a 28-foot boat called Mostly Harmless, also built on the premises, which he uses to take guests on snorkeling trips to the Tobago Cays and half- or full-day excursions throughout the Grenadines. Take a hike, borrow an ocean kayak, watch the birds, or, for something completely different, enjoy a donkey trek—from three hours to five days.

Pros

  • Ideal for small groups or families (up to 16 people)
  • Swinging in your hammock is an "active" sport
  • Beautiful Grenadines view

Cons

  • Rustic environs
  • Way off the beaten path
  • Rental car advised

Cabier Ocean Lodge

$ | Grenada

Definitely off the beaten path and in a truly natural environment, Cabier Ocean Lodge is a combination guesthouse, restaurant/bar, petting zoo, and donkey ranch—all on a remote point of land high above the sea on Grenada's windward (eastern) coast. Guests have the run of the property, which extends down to secluded, reef-protected Cabier Beach and inland to the main road (about a 15-minute hike). Snooze in a hammock, rest and reflect on the beach, take a nature walk, participate in a creole or French cooking workshop. Rooms in the lodge itself surround a little zoo with rescued animals: a monkey, possum, armadillo, manicou, birds, and other small creatures; goats and donkeys roam the hillside. Several rooms have kitchenettes. Two villa units—with full kitchens, broad terraces, and a private infinity-edge pool—are especially suitable for families. This is a paradise for hikers, bird-watchers, and naturalists, while families enjoy the truly relaxed environment. The restaurant serves excellent cuisine and draws patrons from beyond the premises for both lunch (and the view) and dinner.

Pros

  • Perfect place to unwind
  • All rooms have a balcony and sea view
  • Snorkeling and fishing equipment provided

Cons

  • A long drive (45 minutes) from the airport or St. George's
  • Rooms are simply furnished, as guests seem more attracted to the outdoors
  • TV only in the lounge
