Why We Like It

Coco Hotel isn’t trying to be a five-star luxury property—but that’s precisely what makes it shine. It’s affordable, effortlessly on-trend, and full of thoughtful touches that make it one of Copenhagen’s best-value boutique stays. Plus, the location is something to write home about. Vesterbro is Copenhagen’s cool kid—a former red-light district turned hipster packed with craft cocktail bars, coffee roasters, and effortlessly hip locals on bikes. Staying at Coco Hotel drops you right into the middle of this vibrant local culture and lifestyle. Still, here’s the magic—you’re city center, but just far enough from the madness. While Tivoli Gardens, Central Station, and the Meatpacking District are just minutes away by bike or foot, the hotel feels like a quiet pocket of calm (and cool–don’t forget the cool).

Fodor's Expert Review

While some hotels try too hard, Coco Hotel gets it just right. A chic yet budget-friendly boutique stay in Copenhagen’s effortlessly cool Vesterbro district, this 4-star eco-certified retreat blends laid-back Parisian charm with Danish minimalism, all without the sticker shock of high-end design hotels. While trendy, it’s also welcoming–the kind of place where locals socialize, guests extend their stays, and the complimentary wine hour is a beloved nightly ritual. A hidden gem, one might say (until now, sorry locals!).

Room

Coco Hotel proves that size isn’t everything. The 89 rooms are compact but cleverly designed, with a playful mix of vintage furniture, Danish-made decor, and cheerful color palettes. Some rooms channel a Parisian apartment vibe, while others lean into Scandi simplicity, but all feel bright and still somehow effortlessly posh. Natural light pours through tall windows framed by floor-length curtains, and plush armchairs make the most of the small space.

While some rooms overlook bustling Vesterbrogade, others open onto the serene courtyard, giving guests a choice between city buzz and quiet retreat. Beds are supremely comfortable, topped with organic linens (and if you’re a pillow snob, you’ll appreciate the thoughtful firmness-to-fluff ratio). Storage is minimal, but it works fine for travelers who don’t unpack their entire suitcase. The hotel also offers accessible rooms and facilities for guests with disabilities.

You Should Know If you’re a light sleeper, choose a courtyard-facing Deluxe Room.

Bathroom

Like the rooms, the bathrooms at Coco Hotel are compact but well-executed. Minimalist white tiling, modern fixtures, and excellent water pressure compensate for the lack of space, and refillable organic toiletries align with the hotel’s sustainable ethos. There are no deep soaking tubs here—but the walk-in rainfall showers can feel equally fresh and luxurious.

Tip If you prefer extra space to move around, book a Deluxe Room or a Junior Suite—Standard Rooms’ bathrooms can feel a bit snug.

Lobby

Immediately upon entering Coco Hotel, you see it is a love letter to European boutique hotels. Imagine a Parisian guesthouse that meets Scandinavian sensibility: soft lighting, vintage chandeliers, pops of color, and just the right amount of eclectic charm. Guests are greeted with a warm reception–the kind of hospitality one may associate with five-star stays. During the day, the lobby doubles as a laid-back café, with guests and locals chatting over strong coffee, flaky pastries, and an assortment of Danish newspapers. The atmosphere shifts by late afternoon, when the bar takes over, and the space becomes a relaxed social hub.

However, the real star of the Coco show is its courtyard. It is connected seamlessly to the lobby and is an unexpected urban oasis lined with greenery, twinkling lights, and cushioned seating. It’s the ultimate place to sip coffee in the morning, read a book in the afternoon, or enjoy a leisurely glass of wine before dinner. Visit during the holidays, and the courtyard transforms into a Nordic winter wonderland, complete with festive lights and steaming cups of gløgg (Danish mulled wine). It’s easily the hotel’s most defining feature—inviting locals and foreigners alike.

Pool

Coco Hotel doesn’t have an on-site pool or spa, but guests can enjoy exclusive hotel partnerships with some of Copenhagen’s top wellness and fitness facilities. For a truly indulgent experience, AIRE Ancient Baths Copenhagen offers a tranquil escape in a beautifully restored factory in Carlsberg Byen (a 25-minute walk from Coco Hotel). Inspired by ancient Roman and Ottoman bathing traditions, AIRE features warm and cold thermal baths, hydrotherapy treatments, and deep-relaxation massages. As a guest, you’ll receive a special upgrade, including complimentary cava and Peter Beier chocolate, for that extra *chef’s kiss* touch of indulgence.

Gym

In lieu of an on-site gym, guests can work out at Vesterbronx Gym (a 4-minute walk), a New York-inspired fitness space with free weights, cardio machines, and state-of-the-art equipment. A discounted 60 DKK day pass includes access to changing rooms and showers. STUDIO 41 Pilates (next door to the hotel) offers reformer and mat-based classes in a boutique setting for those interested in Pilates or yoga. Hotel guests can receive a 20% discount.

Tip If you don’t like gyms, pack walking shoes. You’ll get plenty of exercise just by exploring the Vesterbro neighborhood!

Dining

While Coco Hotel does not have a full restaurant, it does breakfast exceptionally well. The on-site Coco Café serves a delicious Scandinavian-style breakfast featuring organic bread, local cheeses, fresh juices, and strong coffee. The dining area has a Parisian cafe vibe throughout the day, complemented by cheese sandwiches and croissants.

What makes it even better? Coco Hotel is owned by the Copenhagen Food Collective (Cofoco), meaning guests get a 15% discount on the entire bill (for up to 8 guests!) at 19 of the city’s best restaurants. That means Michelin-level meals without the Michelin-level price tag. Not sure where to eat now? In Cofoco’s collection, nearby Les Trois Cochons is perfect for French bistro vibes, while Llama serves up some of Copenhagen’s best Latin American flavors.

Drinking

The lobby bar of Coco Hotel wears many hats– it is equal parts café, lounge, and social hub, shifting its mood throughout the day. By morning, it’s all croissants and cappuccinos. By afternoon, it’s a quiet workspace. And by evening, it puts on its party hat, transforming into a lively wine bar where guests and locals mingle over expertly curated vintages. The highlight is undoubtedly the complimentary wine hour every evening. It’s casual, effortlessly social, and the kind of detail that makes this hotel feel special.

Tip Include the happy hour in your itinerary. It is a great way to organically meet locals and fellow travelers, and it’s complimentary!
